As part of our ongoing commitment to community wellbeing and environmental stewardship, Holistic Impact Hub members recently joined a group walk up Mount Heha, the highest mountain in Burundi — alongside tourists visiting from abroad and members of the local Burundian community.
The climb was more than a scenic outing. Time outdoors and access to fresh air are recognized contributors to mental health, and this is a principle we carry into our Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and environmental resilience work. Walks like this give our team, local community members, and visitors a shared chance to experience that connection directly, while exploring parts of Burundi many rarely get to see.
Mount Heha's slopes, forests, and sweeping views over the surrounding hills are a reminder of what's at stake in our environmental work: Burundi's natural landscapes are a reserve held in trust for future generations. Protecting them begins with awareness, and awareness begins with experiences like this one.
We also see initiatives like this as a form of peacebuilding. When Burundians and international visitors walk the same trail and share the same view, it builds a real, human connection — one that helps tell a different story about our country and the wider Great Lakes Region: a story of beauty, resilience, and possibility.
We invite you to come see it for yourself. Whether you're a partner, a traveler, or simply curious, Mount Heha — and Burundi — are waiting.
